Dr. Robert Poteat began his Lakewood Mastiffs breeding program in 1984 primarily with Mastiffs from Deer Run and Indian Raid lines. English lines were then introduced through the years.

All Lakewood Mastiff breeding stock is OFA health tested for hip and elbow dysplasia and PRA (progressive retinal atrophy).
